The Intercollegiate Secondary School games are back under the new title sponsor Republic Bank Grenada Limited formerly known as Scotia Bank. A media launch was held to announce the three days of events carded for March 31st, April 1st & 2nd 2020 at the Kirani James Athletics Stadium.
Managing Director of Republic Bank, Keith Johnson said that just about three months ago when Republic Bank Grenada Ltd acquired Scotia Bank Grenada it simultaneously marked a continuation and new beginnings for Republic as a larger entity.
He went on to note, that it included the continuation of sponsorship of Intercol, which was have started some thirty-eight years ago by Scotia Bank Grenada.
“Republic Bank is extremely pleased to host its first-ever Inter-Secondary Schools Athletics Championships and also a proud partner with the Grenada Association of Principals of Secondary Schools and the Grenada Secondary Schools Games Association.” He said the bank boasts an enviable track record of support in the area of youth development through sports.
The Intercol games Mr Johnson continued, is a huge addition to the illustrious list of sporting activities supported by the bank namely Right Start youth football and under 19 inter-parish cricket tournaments among others. “These activities are made possible under our flagship corporate social responsibility program, the power to make a difference, an initiative, which offers opportunities to help build better communities under four main pillars the power to learn, to care, to help and succeed”.
According to Johnson, Republic Bank continues to seek new avenues to engage the nation’s most valuable resource (our youths) noting that the inter-secondary schools games offer the perfect opportunity to reach thousands of students and aspiring athletes from all twenty-three secondary schools across the tri-island state having gladly accepted the baton from those who have completed their leg.

Kevin Andall- Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education & Human Resource Development thanked the former title sponsor Scotia Bank for its memorable and impactful contribution over years and welcomed the new title sponsor Republic Bank noting that the game has been such a Mecca of events for sports in the showcasing of the talents of young people in the tri-island state.
“The value of sports in the life of our young people, and their overall development cannot be understated, our students through the intercol and other sporting activities better their economic status for higher education hinting and when it comes to health and wellbeing and competitive sports, intercol has played a vital part in the health and wellness fabric of our society”, he commented
Chairman of Grenada Association of Principals of Secondary Schools Dominic also expressed gratitude to the former title sponsor.
“As we bid farewell to Scotia Bank, we warmly welcome Republic Bank as our new title sponsor of Intercol Games 2020”.
He gave the assurance that Republic Bank Secondary School intercol games would be executed in an efficient and incident-free manner noting that intercol will be streamed around the world and therefore we must work hard to ensure that we are at our best.
Meet Director of the Intercol Championship- Kerlon Peters explained some slight changes in the structure of the games for this year in the area of divisions. He noted that they are acting under the recommendation of the Carifita Games by changing the divisions from four categories to three; under 15 (sub-juniors), under 17 (juniors) & under 20 (seniors). A total of 106 events would compete over three days involving both male and female with full competition from day one. The point system remains the same to get participation from all schools.
